What you'll need to rent

Boater education is required

Georgia requires anyone born on or after January 1, 1998 to complete boater education. Most rental companies have you take a short state-approved rental course or video before you leave the dock.

Age and ID

Most marinas require the driver to be 21 with a valid driver's license and a major credit card.

Book early in summer

Weekends from Memorial Day to Labor Day sell out, and July and holiday weekends carry peak pricing. Weekdays and spring or fall are much easier — and cheaper.

Check cancellation and weather rules

Most companies only waive fees for dangerous weather as judged by marina staff. Read the policy before you book.

Fleets, prices and rules change every season — confirm directly with the rental company.

Renting every weekend?

A lot of our lake buyers started as renters. A home in a neighborhood with a community dock can cost less than you'd think — we're happy to show you.
